moist-voice:

Apparently, Where the Wild Things Are, was made into an opera in the 80’s. The libretto was actually written by Maurice Sendak while the music was written by composer Oliver Knussen. Some of the music is pretty fucking cool though. I was reading a BSO article about Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, and apparently Knussen heavily drew inspiration from Ravel’s piece for the WTWTA composition. Also, the stage design and costumes look insane considering the fact that it’s an opera. I have no idea who they were marketing this towards, considering children’s general lack of interest in operas but I’d go see it for sure.

Check out my mom’s charitable organization, Hope62. Along, with everybody that is involved, she helps raise money and awareness for cancer and other families in need of help in these rough times. I love ya and I’m proud ya Mom!

Check out her new blog and be sure to follow it. It’s for a great cause and it will help you get involved with the sort of things on your New Years resolution list that say you are going to do (but never do). Yeah, I’m looking at you!!!!

Came across this the other day. Its like if Suicide and Tom Waits made music together. If all the music and vocal effects of suicide fucked and had a love child with the vocal prowess of Tom Waits delivery.

Share-a-tories- Trans American Express

Numerous molecular sounds converge and disperse seemingly at random on Share-a-tories’ Dissolved In The Dark, an album conceptualized in the musical equivalent of impressionism. However, despite the multitude of swirling notes, when everything comes together the music takes shape, constructing a flowing river of vocals, prickly, chaotic guitars and pulsating yet subtle electronic elements.

Highlights include “Cycling,” in which the chorus, consisting of layered vocals without lyrics, mimics the rolling motion of wheels, “Ignis Fatuus” a stripped down song that coasts with an unaffected acoustic guitar as the main motif, and “Last Day In Exile” a dream-pop track with a retro vibe.

Dissolved In The Dark is built like a mosaic; many different pieces – some colorful, some jagged, some raw and some polished – compose what is ultimately a rustically beautiful whole. Share-a-tories have produced a record that not only provides an interesting listening experience, but also introduces a musical project that has certainly caught our attention. - Chloe @BuzzChips.com

Thanks to Jeremy from over at Hi54LoFi Records for the kind words. As well as supporting independent music, Jeremy and the folks involved over at Hi54lofi have just returned (I think) from a European tour. I’m jealous.

Share-a-tories is a band name that you should know. His previous album was a perfectly eccentric mix of beautiful sounds and now he is back with something that is just as heavy on the beautiful sounds, possibly even more so.

Besides making great songs, what I really love about Share-a-tories is how he makes albums that feel like albums. Even as all over the map as his first album was, it felt like an album that was best listened to front to back and over again. And with Dissolved in the Dark, you get that same ‘album’ feel, where each song seems to drip into the next one. Except this time around, Andrew has reeled in his wide range of sounds and directions, and focused on creating a more consolidated sound for this EP. And it worked, cause this is a really great EP.

This EP is available digitally and on cassette, so check your listening devices and see which format works for you. Because you should pick this up (and great cover art by Nathaniel Whitcomb).
